Hopsack Trauma and Mineral Sky Grief

I'm officially handicapped. I used to think I had great taste, though my teensy budget rarely let me manifest it. After months of dreaming up grand visions for the completion of our home, I've learned I'm actually a design disaster, and I'm 0 for 3 on paint. First, M's room. What seemed a soft beige is actually yellow. Like margarine. I was soo wrong. On to the basement where "classic taupe" seemed ideal in every way, except on the walls. (see previous post). Was thrilled to discover "hopsack" as a perfect replacement, erring on the grey side to avoid the too-orange mistake. Wrong again. Still too orange, somehow. It's grey on the swatch, against the carpet, in daylight, under the lamps, everywhere but the dang wall! (check it out at your local Lowe's, Valspar brand). Then I was so confident in my choice of a happy little "mineral sky" blue for the little guest bath, soft but bright. Well, now it's on the walls and I see I was wrong again. Looks like toothpaste. I have serious issues, and I'm rather ashamed to have guests (which I've been delaying until basement completion). So, in panic now I leave you, banging my color-dumb head against an ugly wall.

I'm sorry you are having such a hard time...I really loved the paint color in our first house in Idaho - It was called "Tavern Taupe" and it was from Sherwin Williams. I don't know if they still sell it, but it was my favorite neutral. Good luck!

My girlfriend and her husband decided to paint their entire condo lime green and it seriously looked like the inside of a bad 80's video. They had to repaint the entire thing twice before it looked normal again. Unfortunately it happens.

I'm so sorry! That is so much work and so expensive to keep changing. Yikes! Wish I had some color words of wisdom. Good luck!
