All in the family

I'm not into genealogy. I'm interested in my family history but not the tedious, frustrating, nitty gritty searching.  Luckily, other people in my family have done a lot of work on the subject. My mom used to call me at work--positively titillated--to let me know I'm related to so and so or what's his face or whatever. Charlemagne? Well, that may or may not be such a thing to be proud of, what with all the questions as to who was really begetting who back then. I gave gratuitous replies and rolled my eyes and went back to work.

Today, however, her news interested me:
I'm related to Jane Austen.
via my great great grandmother's line, however round-about and very very distant
(8th cousin, 7 times removed or something crazy like that)
I just knew that Elizabeth Bingley and I had a connection. Well, most gals feel that way, but now I can say I share an actual kinship of sorts. And now I bid adieu to pen my first brilliant novel...

No way?!! That is so cool. You have always been a good writer, Kim. That's were that comes from.

I'm with you on the family history. Right now I am not interested in digging, but getting histories from my grandmother and parents. They won't be around when I am 60 so I am taking advantage of the opp.

How cool! If there is a writer I'd love to be related to, it would definitely be Jane Austen. I am in love with the world she creates in her books.

Amazing. Wow. Jane herself would have much more sophisticated words for this, but I don't.
