Halloween in the Neighborhood

Last night our very cool neighbors had about a gazillion people in their garage carving pumpkins. Every single pumpkin they carved now adorns their [beautifully landscaped] front yard. Dozens of them. We strolled over before M's bedtime this evening to have a peek, and somehow ended up carving more pumpkins with more people. And they aren't done yet. I've given up decorating my own porch since any attempt would pale in comparison. The yard looks amazing, as do the jack-o-lanterns. B earned some serious high-5s with his owl (see photo below). Love it. Other stunners?  the Statue of Liberty, a black cat, and a penguin! One carver even drilled little holes just the right size for stuffing with clear shiny pebbles. Darling. So glad we got to participate. M was rather glad to stay up past bedtime, run around at will in the neighbors' garage while being served candy at his leisure by all the grown ups who found him irresistible. Note the chocolate mouth...

The homeowners host this carving party every year and I think it's a great idea for an evening with friends and neighbors, whether planned weeks in advance or impromptu. Host provides pumpkins & tools, maybe snacks and beverages. Guests provide the chili and carving skills. Everyone's reward is a memorable evening and the pride knowing their own creation is displayed so festively.
If you are local, send me an email and I'll give you the address so you can do a drive by. They are still adding pumpkins...I hear they've had over 100 in years past. I'll post more photos as they add to the yard.

What a great idea! And I have to say I wouldn't be able to deny M anything. He's irresistible!
