My neighbor invited me to pick raspberries with her this week, and such a treat it was! Those berries that survived my hand-to-mouth impulses became freezer jam today, to keep the strawberry jam company. Extras have been frozen for future use in smoothies, muffins, breakfast syrup, or dessert topping. Rewards for my labors all winter long! And the sense of domestic satisfaction is grand, I admit.
Note: if you love raspberry jam, but aren't so crazy about the tiny seeds, simply mash the berries through a sieve before mixing with the sugar. You'll need more berries (2 cups to be safe) than the jam recipe calls for, as the sieve reduces the amount of pulp significantly. The seeds don't bother me, but B hates them. All that sieve-ing is truly a labor of love!

Oh how I love raspberries and strawberries and apricots and cherries during the summer! I miss not being able to go pick fresh ones - definitely a downside of Vegas...
what a little homemaker you are. still haven't gotten around to making a batch, but hopefully I'll get to the farmer's market this week to pick some fruit.
