sooooo....sew?

I just bought a sewing machine. Visions of beautiful pillow covers, chic tote bags, heirloom blankets and Amy Butler textiles crowd my imagination...

but...I can't sew...
Yikes.
I'm not sure my marriage is strong enough to survive my endeavors.
Help.

If I can learn, so can you. Have fun!

it comes with a manual, right? :) I learned my best stuff from 4th grade home ec. Actually, my mom is AMAZING and has taught my sister and I. It'll come real easy. And if you mess up, you can always tear out a seam. I can do the basic pillow cover, curtians, Jack's bedding and that's about all. My secret to success: no patterns. Never was a color-in-the-lines kind of girl.

You are inspiring me to dust off my machine and whip out something. Good Luck!

my parents made me learn to sew in High School, but I hated it. I tried making Christmas stockings when we first married, they were a disaster. My MIL was appalled at my ineptness. Suddenly I'm motivated to try again. Sewing for Dummies, anyone? I'm terrible at crafty things, but M inspires me!

My mom and I did the same sort of thing. We went out about 4 years ago and bought a fancy new sewing machine and made some table runners, and placements and throw pillows... We were pretty pleased with ourselves. But that is the last time we touched the thing and as daring as we got. Hope you come up with more than pillows!

It may be worth getting some lessons at a local sewing store. If you know some basic tricks, you'll master it quickly.
