Book Picks for Girls

As a tween, I was generally unimpressed with the tween-oriented literature available. Here are 2 exceptions.

Aimed at 5th-8th grade readers, Number the Stars by Lois Lowry is a great read about the friendship and courage of 2 young girls during WWII. My charming B teaches this age group and often brings home their classroom reading for me to review; this is one of my favorites so far.  It makes a lovely quick read for grown-ups, too!

The story was adapted from the author's rich personal family history and tells of another female protagonist that faces enormous obstacles with bravery and faith. Though historical elements in both books are tragic, the stories manage to be uplifting.

First of all, I didn't know B was a teacher! Awesome. Secondly, thanks for the great book picks. I can't wait to read them.
