home?

Just under 4 months ago we moved from a neighboring state to Idaho. We left a slightly larger home, a larger community and a greater number of options in regards to shopping and entertainment, employment and conveniences. This past weekend, we went back to visit for a day and as we drove along roads we'd taken countless times over the past 6 and a half years, B and I share the same thought: This doesn't feel like it was ever "home."  Shortly after our marriage, we decided that while there were many things we liked about our community, neither of us felt inclined to remain there forever. Since our move, we have felt a stronger sense of "place" and "community" and a stronger desire to stay put for a while. Still, though, we've been missing some of the things we left behind and expected the life we left  to still feel familiar and comfortable. How strange it was to look around at things we'd known for so long and not feel any connection whatsoever, as though we'd never lived there but had merely visited a time or two in the past. On the flip side, how quickly we felt "at home" after our move to Idaho, a place where we had no relatives, no friends, nothing familiar.  Is it our own perspective that creates these feelings of belonging or, is it something in the universe that gives us the sense of being connected to a place?
